Did you know that the largest human organ is the skin?

Our skin reflects the state of our general health and it is our first defense barrier against external stresses. It is of paramount importance to maintain our skin health and we can do this naturally and efficiently by following these 6 easy steps:

Step 1

Do drink plenty of water. I would not advise you to sip water all day long as the current trend is, as our body is used to get water when thirsty only. Drink as much water and a little more than you need when you feel thirsty and ensure you drink at least 1.5 liters in total per day. For a more pleasant experience, the water can be enriched with lemon and cucumber slices and mint leaves.

Do not drink alcohol in excess. If possible, do not drink water from plastic bottles.

Step 2

Do drink vegetables and fruit juices daily and your skin will glow with health. And not only your skin, your hair too! I will not enter into detail regarding the detox qualities vegetables and fruit juices have, this will be the theme of a future article as well as vegetables and fruit juices recipes and juices blends. Natural vegetables and fruit juices shall be consumed within 30 minutes from preparation.

Do not drink fruit juices from the supermarket as they are loaded with sugar and additives.

Step 3

Fruit-vegetables-for-a-radiant-skinDo eat plenty of vegetables, especially green leaves and, if possible, organic. The chemicals (fertilizers, insecticides, etc.) used in industrial farming have a huge negative impact on the well-being of our internal organs and our skin is just the reflection of our internal health.

Do not overcook the vegetables as most of the vitamins and nutrients are destroyed during the cooking process. Reduce the use of the microwave as much as possible.

Step 4

Do use natural body care products whenever possible: natural shower gels, body lotions, face creams, and cosmetics will have a beneficial impact on the appearance and health of your skin. There are plenty of excellent natural beauty products and your skin will thank you for using them by feeling soft and radiating health.

Do not use very hot water when showering as the hot water will wash off most of the natural oils protecting the skin against external aggressors.

Step 5

Do have plenty of sleep! You can have a restful night sleep by ensuring that:

  • no eating takes place after 7 pm
  • no browsing on electronic devices (laptop, tablet, mobile phone) in bed
  • no blue light in the bedroom from bedside lamps or other lighting appliances
  • ambient temperature is between 18 – 20 deg.C
  • go to bed around 10 pm

Do not watch TV in the bedroom before going to sleep.

Step 6

Do exercise daily, preferably outdoors, surrounded by trees, fresh clean air, family, friends and maybe your beloved dog.  Fresh-air-healthy-body

Do not stay in full sun between 12 pm and 5 pm other than occasionally and avoid using artificial tanning devices and cosmetics.

It is really easy to maintain your skin health – naturally and efficiently by following the steps above but the question is will you do it? It looks so easy that we just do not believe it will work. As we know already, Mother Earth gives us the tools and at the same time the Dos and Don’ts but as always the choice is ours!

My intention is not to convince you to change your habits or preferences, my intention is just to make you aware that there are different ways of living our lives and our choices will make a huge difference in our general health and of course on our skin.

In health,

  1. Thank you for this great advice! I certainly have “bought into” the idea of sipping water all day long and had no idea it wasn’t helping. I always thought more was better! I try to avoid plastic bottles but sometimes leave my reusable container at home. Maybe I’ll just leave one in my car at all times. I look forward to getting some more great information from this website!

    • Hi Cynthia, thank you for the comments, yes the idea is to drink water when thirsty only otherwise our bodies get confused. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to just talk to somebody about skin health!
      Warm Regards,

  2. Hi! This is a great article! I am always looking fro ways to do things naturally, especially with all of the rough processes and mass production that occurs today.

Skin health has always been an issue for me, but these are some great steps that will help me with my issue. Thanks!

  3. Hello, I really want to first appreciate your effort in putting this great website together and writing this article. I totally agree with this insightful post of yours but getting enough sleep might be much of a luxury as a man. Personally I hardly have time to sleep but then I’ll try to create time to do so. I am engaging all you have said

    • Hi Benny,

That is great if you can function efficiently without much sleep! Thank you for taking the time to comment and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

      In Health,

  4. I enjoyed your informative post on maintaining healthy skin. I eat a tossed green salad pretty much every day. The only juice I buy is pure apple juice or pure orange juice with nothing added.

Drinking lots of water every day has always been a challenge for me. Very seldom do I ever get thirsty. This has been true for as long as I can remember. I was a marathoner and would run for 3 hours sometimes and never took along water. I was just never thirsty.

Sometimes after long runs I would be thirsty after the fact, but on a day to day basis it’s always a challenge to make myself drink water.

I use a product called Bio-Oil for my face. It’s quite expensive but is pretty amazing as far as the results.

    • Hi Ray,

Thank you for sharing your experience with organic products and Bio-Oil. Being a marathoner you had to ensure your body receives the best nutrition.

      Warm Regards,

  5. This is all good advice and certainly worth the reminder. I’m already doing all of those things but was unaware of it not being good to sip water all day, which is what I tend to do, with a water bottle always handy.

I’m guilty of looking at a mobile phone before bedtime, I know it’s not good for sleep. Getting the kids to stop doing it also is a challenge. Great website, thanks for all that useful advice.
